Thought this could be kind of an interesting poll to have in here. We can kind of use this poll as like a Santa Claus Rally poll. Basically, anyone who thinks the SPX will cross into new ATH territory before the new year believes that we'll see a Santa Rally. So, what say you Stockaholics community? guess i'll do the honors here first in voting. i voted for yes. but, will admit I'm feeling hella cautious up at these nosebleed levels in the markets again (purely speaking as a market observer here btw, as i haven't traded in months). i think a pullback or sideways action would be very healthy. but, i think eventually all of the other major indices will join the dow and print the new highs, but doing it in these next 2 weeks doesn't seem like a total stretch. what's another 2% from here. could happen in a few days really. so i think absent any really horrible news probably see the spx finally in the new ATH land with the dow.
man i may need to shutter this poll sooner than 5 days at the rate we've been climbing everyday. spx now just about 1% away from the ATH. and just 0.6% away from the "closing" high. for those of you who haven't voted yet. cast your votes now while you still can! likely will be closing this one off either tomorrow or the next day.
Shoot looks like I jinxed it lol. I thought we would see a pullback after running up non stop but thought it was going to happen in January. With the setback today, ATH at EOY is looking much more unlikely now unless we cut most of the losses from today pretty quickly by EOW
So we are about 37 to 38 points off the ATH for the SPX and there are 2 days left, I expect a pretty low volume day on Friday so I would think we need to gain at least around 20 points tomorrow if we want to see a new ATH before EOY
looks like the "closing" ATH in the SPX was 4,796 if i'm not mistaken? but the intraday is another 20 or so handles off. technically the "closing" print is the more meaningful figure, so i may just use that for this poll and not the intraday one. right now cash spx is legit just 4 handles off that closing high. it could very well close a new ATH today but can also still do it tomorrow (which would be its final day to do it for the year, and this poll haha)
whelp, scratch that thought. new SPX ATHs before EOY are denied. looks like there weren't any no votes for this poll, so the 4 of us that did vote yes got it wrong doesn't mean that it wouldn't happen next year. just that it didn't happen before the new year as per the poll question haha. thanks for playing!
