Sprint Corp. (S) Enters Sale-Leaseback Agreement for ~$2.2B of Existing Network Assets

    April 6, 2016 5:02 PM EDT
    [IMG]

Sprint Corporation (NYSE: S) entered into a transaction with several bankruptcy remote entities (collectively “Network LeaseCo”) for the sale and leaseback of certain existing network assets, which is expected to close next week and provide the company with $2.2 billion of funding. When closed, the transaction will immediately improve the company’s liquidity position at an attractive cost of capital in the mid-single digits.

“Sprint and SoftBank have worked together again to create a unique structure that provides Sprint with an attractive source of capital,” said Sprint CFO Tarek Robbiati. “This transaction is an important first step in addressing upcoming debt maturities and allows us to stay focused on our corporate transformation, which involves growing topline revenues and aggressively taking costs out of the business to improve operating cash flows.”

Network LeaseCo will acquire certain existing network assets and then lease them back to Sprint. The assets acquired by Network LeaseCo will be used as collateral to raise approximately $2.2 billion in borrowings from external investors, including SoftBank. The $2.2 billion of cash proceeds Sprint expects to receive from the transaction is scheduled to be repaid in staggered, unequal payments through January 2018.

For accounting purposes, Sprint will consolidate Network LeaseCo and Sprint’s consolidated financials will reflect the cash proceeds it receives and the underlying debt of Network LeaseCo. The network assets involved in the transaction, which have a net book value of approximately $3 billion and consist primarily of equipment located at cell towers, will remain on Sprint’s consolidated financial statements and will continue to be depreciated. In addition, Sprint will record interest expense incurred in connection with the debt of Network LeaseCo.

As of December 31, 2015, Sprint had total liquidity of $6 billion with an additional $600 million of availability under vendor financing agreements that can be used toward the purchase of 2.5 GHz network equipment.

Sprint does not sit at the table next to AT&T.

Sprint Unveils LTE Plus In New York City

Sprint Corp (NYSE: S) unveiled LTE Plus in New York City. As a result, its customers could experience a faster, stronger and more reliable service. According to the company, LTE Plus network is available in 190 other markets across the nation and takes advantage of the company's rich triband spectrum portfolio. Also, the company uses some of the most advanced technologies in the world in respect of wireless.

Sprint said it doubled the speed, as well as the capacity of over 900 2.5GHz cell sites across the New York Metropolitan Area since the beginning of the current year with the deployment of two-channel carrier aggregation. The telecom service provider said that carrier aggregation, which is a feature of LTE Plus, created a wider lane enabling more network traffic to travel at a rapid pace allowing the company to offer its customers with even faster data speeds.

The company's COO, Gunther Ottendorfer, commented, "There's no better proving ground for our network than New York". He added further that "In the past few months we made tremendous improvements across the entire metropolitan area, and we're committed to providing The City That Never Sleeps with an exceptional wireless experience."

Sprint up big in a down market as it nears the upper BB. I had read that there was a Twitter leak from the Sprint Ceo that earnings might be good. After reading the post I thought it might be a over-reaction as it was vague and more of a assumption. I am hoping earnings are positive as this is one of my spec plays

S still moving on up and this is best uptrend since they topped in the 1st part of March. There are now 6 higher lows, overbought and sitting above the upper BB. I know they are doing a lot of expansion but I am not sure that is the driver. They also lose on strong volume compared with the rest of the market. In a article today it said Apple was losing a lot of it's sales on the Iphone's to the telecoms.

I can't quite put my finger on what the catalyst is for S but it has a good uptrend. This is still a spec play from me until I see something substantial for a driver.

Sprint reveals its last One Sprint leaders
Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) has revealed the final people selected for the One Sprint initiative it rolled out in November to restructure its sales efforts. Previously, the Overland Park-based company focused its sales on the customer it was trying to attract, not by market. Now, it's devoting targeted resources to four geographic areas with 18 key regions.

S had a improved outlook on Savings and Job cuts, but can they beat on May 3rd. Just a educated guess, I think there is a fair chance of a beat. As S is one of the most shorted stocks be prepared for a big pop in one direction or another. My freehand has room for improvement this looks like a cup and handle.

S has broke above the 50DMA and is trading up in this meltdown today on strong volume. I am not sure why unless the Amazon deal is moving it.
