Man has two guesses to unlock bitcoin worth $240m

Mr Thomas was given 7,002 bitcoins as payment for making a video explaining how cryptocurrency works more than a decade ago. He stored them in an IronKey digital wallet on a hard drive. And he wrote the password on a piece of paper he has lost. After 10 failed attempts, the password will encrypt itself, making the wallet impossible to access.

Mr Thomas would not be the first potential Bitcoin millionaire to be locked out of their fortune.

Currently, about $140bn worth of Bitcoin is lost or left in wallets that cannot be accessed, according to cryptocurrency-data company Chainanalysis.

The New York Times article also references an entrepreneur who lost about 800 bitcoins when a colleague reformatted a laptop containing the private keys to his wallet. And in 2013, a Welsh man desperately searched a landfill site after throwing away a computer hard drive containing 7,500 bitcoins. At the time worth more than £4m, this would now be valued at more than £250m.

I got 99 passwords but my IronKey ain't one.

$IDEX - Prepares to Launch Medici Motor Works in North America, Sponsorship in NACFE

NACFE sponsors represent a broad range of EV-related stakeholders from manufacturers, OEMs, fleet operators, energy companies, utilities, government and non-government agencies.

NEW YORK, -- Ideanomics (NASDAQ: IDEX) announced its sponsorship in the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE). As Ideanomics prepares to launch its heavy truck and specialty electric vehicle unit, Medici Motor Works, in North America in 2021, it was imperative that the Company work with stakeholders and advocacy groups to understand the opportunities unique to the region.
NACFE is an unbiased, non-profit, organization that works with major stakeholders across North America's freight industry. It works with fleet operators, manufacturers, shippers, software providers, governments, associations, etc., and its mission is to double freight efficiency and progress towards zero-emissions. NACFE conducts studies and uses data analysis to drive the development and adoption of efficiency-enhancing, environmentally beneficial, and cost-effective technologies, services, and methodologies.

"NACFE takes a holistic approach to electric vehicle (EV) adoption and brings together important and influential companies in the freight industry," said Ideanomics CEO Alf Poor. "Our participation in NACFE will enable us to better understand the North American market at both a local and national level and, with this knowledge, improve the development and growth of our businesses in the EV space, which includes our MEG division, Medici Motor Works, and WAVE."

Morning Lineup - 1/14/21 - Earnings Season Begins
    Thu, Jan 14, 2021

The President was impeached by the House for the second time in just over a year yesterday, and like the first time, financial markets were unfazed. While the President's first impeachment in the House in December 2019 was completely on a partisan basis and dead on arrival in the Senate, this time around, the fate of the impeachment in the Senate is more uncertain. What seems certain at this point, though, is that the completion (or maybe even the start of a trial) would not take place until after the inauguration, so from a market perspective, it really doesn't matter much.

The only economic data of note today was Jobless Claims, and both initial and continuing claims came in much higher than expected. Initial Claims spiked up to 965K versus forecasts of 786K, and Continuing Claims rose to 5.271 million compared to forecasts for 5.0 million. In terms of the market reaction to these much weaker than expected reports, there really hasn't been any.

In terms of individual companies, although earnings season kicks off today with reports from BlackRock (BLK) and Delta (DAL), the pace of reports will remain slow today and tomorrow. Regarding today's reports, both BLK and DAL are trading modestly higher in reaction to their reports. Also notable, although not a US company, Taiwan Semi (TSM) also reported strong results and is trading up over 2.5%.

With yesterday's big move in Intel (INTC), the stock is now over three standard deviations above its 50-DMA. In the last nearly 40 years, there have only been 22 other days in which the stock was as overbought or more overbought than it is today.

Mickey Mantle baseball card shatters record, sells for $5.2 million

A Mickey Mantle baseball card has shattered a 5-month-old record for highest-selling sports card of all time, going for $5.2 million, PWCC Marketplace announced on Thursday.

Rob Gough, the actor who acquired streetwear brand Dope in 2017, purchased the '52 Mantle, which former NFL lineman Evan Mathis sold in 2018 for $2.88 million. "The 1952 Topps Mantle is the holy grail of sports cards," Gough said. "As a kid ripping packs in the '90s, I always dreamt of owning one. ... I felt this Mantle was highly underpriced."

    #TheWorldWeLiveIn

Actor/Streetwear clothing bro, just with this good feeling man, that these pieces of cardboard haven't even reached full value yet.

He bought the card from a football player (probably CTE). Who does he sell to? Who is the 2020's equivalent of a Garage Sale sucker, that has $7 million to throw around?

Good trade! I wanted to get in GRWG since they're American but never did. I've been in TLRY and got an eye on CRON which could double revenues for 5 years in a row.
I bought GME a couple days ago too, couldn't ignore the hype.
Amazing to be able to double your investment in a week; I think that's got to be thanks to the high VIX environment we're in, but who knows? Maybe this is just the way it'll always be from now

Nice day for C today, seems like it is outperforming the other big banks for today for whatever reason :D I am guessing the massive stimulus plan from Biden is mostly priced in now and the market might question whether it will get passed in the Senate given the Dems only have a slight majority. Anyway if yields move higher on the stimulus plan then I can see the banks outperforming again and we might see some selling in tech stocks :hmm:

Usually when only 30% of stocks are down, you get a green day.
The big guys are not doing too well; IWM actually +2% today.
