15 months winning streak for the SPX is really amazing It is the longest monthly winning streak ever, right? Wouldn't shock me now if this current monthly winning streak will be extended for a few more months I don't really have any stats on my hand right now but I am guessing that we are having one of the best January ever for the market
hey sorry 'bout that @stock1234 ... i didn't want to make it seem like i was dodging your question there but to answer your question -- yes, it already was the longest monthly winning streak for the SPX (on a total-return basis) ever at 14 months in a row when we finished dec. higher, so this would obviously just be adding onto the record 15 months in a row if jan. ends green (which it sure looks like it will do absent some crazy meltdown in these final 1.5 weeks! ) as for if this january would go down as the best january ever, i think so! but let me just double check on this to make sure. but pretty sure it is. it's also worth noting that today we did make even more market history. i just came across a stat that this was the 395th consecutive day that the SPX has gone w/o a -5% pullback. breaking the previous record of 394 days set in the mid-'90s. this streak was nearly identical in terms of % gains in the SPX to the one from the '90s. the '90s streak saw the SPX gain +41.4%; whilst this streak has gained +40.5% so far up to this point. pretty impressive.
Wow would be a massive profit if you held until right before the close It has been the story for me so far this year actually, I thought I did well for not being greedy and took profits on few of my long positions but then the market just surged even higher on the next day
No problem Cy, really appreciate that you are taking time to answer some of my questions, you are always good at this kind of stats and so I always look for you when I have this kind of question This recent bull run is really making a lot of market history that a lot of people probably will talk about in the future
almost had a double take there ... was the overnight session really up that much? looks like it was ... well off of that now. with the ONH (overnight high) made in the ETH (extended trading hours) typically doesn't suggest that the move is done yet. could still see a pause though, and we're certainly way due for one here.
So the SPX is up +6% YTD in January to this point and having one of its best January's on record. Since 1950, when up the SPX was up +5% or more in Jan. the full year finished up a perfect 12 out of 12 times with an average gain of +24.80%. The final eleven months closed higher 11 out of 12 times with 1987 being the only time that finished down. Meanwhile, dolla falla. DX just violated the 90-handle level for the first time since 2015.
right on cue ... taking out the globex ONH high here in the RTH ... now let's see some meaningful excess for a change (yeah, right )
i was kind of in a rush last night and forgot to post the graphic as well so here it is...better late than never
Haha kinda good to know the SPX was just trading at 600s over 20 years ago. Did we bottom at mid 600s too in March 2009? I can’t exactly remember
Speaking of which... That was my video from way back when! Wow. Coming up on the 9 year anniversary soon.
I didn’t know it was your video until you mentioned about it last year haha It is amazing to see how much the market has ran up for the last 9 years
Haha, I was using crappy VHS at the time. Man, those were the days. Yeah, I'm actually quite embarrassed to admit that I was a *cough* CNBC fan *cough* back in those days lol. I figured that what we were witnessing during the financial crisis and the markets at the time was going to be historic so I thought I had to get the VHS rolling pretty much on a daily basis from Oct. '08, even though the video quality was horrendous. I didn't know that my videos would turn out to be the only one's available on Youtube (even up to this day which I find to be crazy!). I did however miss recording the Dow -777 close from Sept. 29th of that year though lol. That was (and still is today) the largest DJ point drop (on a closing basis) in history. I managed to capture most of the good one's though.
