    The early market today.

Stock market today: Stocks pop with focus on earnings

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/stock-market-today-stocks-pop-with-focus-on-earnings-123711897.html

(BOLD is my opinion OR what I consider important content)

"US stocks rose on Wednesday as investors digested a fresh inflow of quarterly earnings, with the debate over timing of interest rate cuts still rumbling in the background.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose 0.3%, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) popped almost 0.5%. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) was up more than 0.5%.

The market took stock of performance this earnings season, with about two-thirds of S&P 500 company reports now in. Results have on average beaten Wall Street expectations, but some areas of weakness have emerged.

In Wednesday's morning trade, Alibaba (BABA) shares retreated about 5% after the Chinese online retailer posted a revenue miss but said it will boost share buybacks by $25 billion. Coming up on the earnings docket is Disney (DIS), which said Tuesday its ESPN unit will team up with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Fox (FOXA) to launch a new sports streaming service.

Also ahead are appearances by four Federal Reserve officials, including the Boston Fed's Susan Collins and Richmond Fed's Tom Barkin. Investors are listening out for any hints to a policy shift that could revive fading expectations for an early rate cut.

Meanwhile, growing troubles at New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) have stoked worries about regional banks and the health of the real estate sector. Moody's has downgraded the lender's credit rating to junk, and several brokerages have cut their price target amid warnings about governance risk. NYCB shares fell 8%, building on a slide of more than 22% on Tuesday."

    MY COMMENT

I mean, come on....REALLY....do we need FOUR FED MORONS out there blabbering today? This is such an obvious, transparent attack on the markets and intelligence. AND....a pure exercise in elite ego. What a joke.

It appears that the markets....at least early.....dont care.

Good good… let the idiots FOOL the weak. I’ve always made money from going the opposite direction of what the media hinted at. It should almost be an investment strategy at this point.
Listen, I have no idea wtf is going on anymore, my portfolio is up another 1.8% currently with ENPHASE, PLTR, LLY, META and… YUMM (which actually reported a loss earlier today) leading the day. By the end of this day if things stay stead I should be up 16% YTD
I could just liquidate everything and wait for our little black swan friend to make an entrance at some point this year since we all know he’s coming but I never operate that way so I’ll just ride the wins today and the loses at some point tomorrow. that’s just how this business works

    COME ON......GO, GO, GO.

Markets are quickly strengthening right now.

Zukodany has made another few million today with his PLTR up again.

YEP.....Zukodany. The short term is simply insane. Not a place to play for us "regular People". It is the play ground of the speculators and traders.

OK guys....shocking I know....but I made a SPECULATIVE TRADE yesterday. I did NOT post it when it happened because I did not want to encourage anyone else to follow along.

I bought 1000 shares of PLTR on margin in my main account. This is purely a speculative....MOMENTUM.....trade. A total gamble. I am hoping to get enough gain some time over the next.....days to months....to capture 100-200 FREE shares when I cash in.

I made the buy at the open yesterday and as of the close today am UP by 8.7%.

I did a lot of reading prior to making the trade as to the current HYPE and analysis on this stock...I was mainly trying to gauge the amount of "push" and "momentum" for this stock in the media and in the investing community. I also took into consideration the BULL MARKET and the impact of that bull market on tech and AI related companies. The recent earnings and the reaction to those earnings was also a big factor. I also looked at some of the fundamentals of the various business segments of the company. I also had the recent input from....ZUKODANY....on here as well.....LOL.

I made the mental calculation that the.....PROBABILITY...favored this one time trade......ASSUMING....A BIG ASSUMPTION....that I can know when to get out.

I did some momentum trading on COSTCO and SBUX back in the mid to late 1990's. This stock PLTR fit my criteria since it was at $21.75 per share when I bought. When I used to momentum trade a bit..... I liked to do so with 1000 share lots.....and....keep the exposure in the $20,000 range. While doing these trades bask in the day....my primary portfolio was LONG TERM....same as now.

Keep in mind that my primary style is still LONG TERM INVESTING. I am NOT encouraging anyone else to follow or do a similar trade. I may make money I may just as likely lose money. I am simply posting this as disclosure. I do NOT anticipate doing any further momentum or other types of trades. This is a one time happening. If I do manage to come out of this with a positive share balance in PLTR after I pay the initial shares off....I will simply hold them for the long term. AND......NO....I am NOT encouraging anyone else to buy PLTR. I would NOT be buying PLTR....outside this short term trade....but....I will take free shares If I can get any.

    God help me......

As to the above....I am willing to lose up to....$2000. At that point I will simply take my loss and sell.

I'll be pulling for ya. I've had PLTR in 4 of the 5 accounts I manage since '21, nice to see this ~38% the past 2 days. Big fan of Alex Karp.

W I can tell you that you’ve made the right choice with this. And… Not surprising - you’ve done it in YOUR UNIQUE WAY OF INVESTING.
If the skies fall tomorrow, both you and I, and I assume millions of others will cash our coins with this or ANY OTHER POSITION should such a forecast be cast upon us.
But until that happens - the PROBABILITY of such a thing occurring with PLTR is as close to getting run over by a scooter (the results probably being equally painful)
I’ve followed this company for a long while, and as I mentioned plenty of times before, the business is sound with SOLID clients, the product is unique and the leadership is AGGRESSIVELY powerful. Alex Karp point black told an interviewer before how he pitches his sale to his clients - he forms a solution by aggregating date which Palantir calculates specifically tailored to said client, then sells it to them for top dollars. The client knows that if they won’t purchase the product, Palantir will simply go to their competition and offer them the same package. It’s borderline blackmailing them lol
Another thing that pointed my attention to pltr was how they went against the grain during the Bitcoin mania and went all in on GOLD as opposed to crypto at a time when EVERYONE was buying crypto and weren’t worried about inflation. It kind of hinted to me that Palantir’s business of gathering data not only serves their client, but also themselves in making sound judgment with their capital. Plus they’re profitable now and getting stronger each quarter.
I know that in the investing world it’s not popular to pitch a stock to others since you are partially responsible to the outcome of that trade, but I’ve never been so positive about a company as I have with Palantir in the past few months of owning it.
So… SHOW ME THE MONEY PALANTIR!!

Had a nice day today led by NVDA and LLY. GM and BA also did fine with AMZN going up a bit also. DE was down however.

I'm up 14.07% YTD versus the s&p 500 and 4.83%. Tomorrow or Friday I'll get my dividend by DE.

Well in answer to the above....I am willing to take a shot at some FREE SHARES.....if I can pull off this trade. And the risk of a few thousand dollars is minimal to me.....so it is simply a LARK.

As to buying a position in this company at my normal level......I am not willing to do that. The company is too young and too unproven as a long term hold at this point. It might reach my preferred....BIG CAP.....ICONIC....level some day...but not yet.

if I can grab 100 to 200 shares in this little momentum trade I will.....and....than I will sit and watch it for the long term.

LOL.....I dont like that scooter analogy....they are all over downtown Austin and I have nearly been run over many times. It happens often. I hate those things....the should not be on the street or the sidewalk.

I DO want to repeat: I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS COMPANY OR THE PURCHASE OF THIS STOCK TO ANYONE. I AM ALSO NOT RECOMMENDING THIS SORT OF TRADE THAT I AM DOING TO ANYONE ELSE. IT IS BASICALLY GAMBLING.

Okay, so I sold all my NVDA shares and went all in on PLTR based on this. If it goes south, you will see both me and Tom on the corner turning tricks.

I'm totally joking. Good luck to you and zukodany.

    When is gambling not gambling?

We own a corporate leasing company. It has been trading just below 5 bucks for the last year. I've been thinking of downsizing our position in this company.

So, I put in a 90 day sell order for $5.91. I didn't expect it to fill but it did. So, I placed a 90 day buy order for $3.91. The thought behind of was, "what price would be so cheap I would want more of this company?". It took a couple of months but it filled. Its a nicely distributing company so our distributions are at ATH and our company is back to trading just below 5 bucks.

To me, that wasn't gambling. I would have been happy if one or both of those steps had failed. In fact, the sell order was just stalling for time while I decided if its time to sell.

Wow...I wake up to find WXYZ has become a trader. That's the final nail in the coffin - the world has gone completely mad.

Funny how tempted I am to sell something now and buy PLTR lol. I'm clearly far too easily influenced. Don't worry, WXYZ, I won't actually do it.

    Lol you guys are hysterical.
W has always done what he refers to as a momentum trade, and if memory serves me well he almost always WON. That doesn’t mean he does it every day, he just seeks opportunities. I think we’re all GUILTY by doing that from time to time.
I had one or two momentum trades last year and a couple the year before. They help overall but do not get me hooked. If anything, my momentum trade with pltr last year got me to add them to my portfolio as a SOLID long term hold just a few short months later.
But I’m not W’s attorney so I can only analyze his moves from what I read here.
Tommy you’ve always done well here too. I’m sure things are just FINE with your holdings, everyone has some down time with their portfolio once in awhile, but you’ve been excelling overall if memory serves me well.
Lori great hearing from you and so awesome to hear from investors from overseas
Five minutes to open. Let’s gooooo
