I'll start. As we slowly March to the edge of the cliff of a global rubber shortage, we should have allowed tire retreading for passenger cars and light trucks years ago. We stopped allowing the practice in the late 70s because of some nasty delaminations but we are better at it now. Commercial trucks never stopped using recap tires. They just aren't allowed to use them on a steering axle. I wouldn't put retreads on a Bugatti Veyron but my VW Jetta would not be too proud to run them, as long as the quality is decent and they can be balanced correctly.
Ring treads hold up better than recaps. Have no fear the Government has only our best interest in mind.
Is it s political thing or a capitalism thing? Because tire companies lobby, and they want you to buy new tires.
