If the claims of CATL's new LFP cell chemistry are true or close to it, the battery problem has been solved.

This will not work in Tesla's favor but it may not matter, as Tesla still owns the autonomous driving space.

Apparently, GM is working on a vehicle to best Model S Plaid performance.

Best wishes to them. I think this is well possible with a couple of iterations of an e-Corvette but I am extremely skeptical they can produce a better performing sedan in the next decade.

New delivery record of 310k units. That is 1.2M units per year.

China is prolonging the inevitable with their insane COVID measures.

    Agreed, RTN.

They keep expanding the lockdowns and COVID continues to grow. Lockdowns are not working.

On the other hand, only half of their 80+ population has been vaccinated. They have an advertising campaign on, right now, to encourage vaccination, particularly in the older age groups. Perhaps the lockdowns are designed to slow the spread until they can get more vaccine into arms?

Whatever the case, I hope the lockdowns don't go on for that much longer because the global economy can only take so much flagrant abuse.

This just blows my mind. How stupid are they? How much evidence do they need that getting vaccinated will most likely keep 99.99% of people out of the hospital?

This is China. Rights are a myth. Round them up and stick 'em! Enough already.

They probably haven't emphasized getting vaccinated enough because they have prevented basically any deaths in that country with extreme lockdown. I'm sure while the rest of the world is opened now and seeing vaccination keep the countries running, they will transition to vaccinations and away from lockdowns. Their way worked better in 2020 and 2021 to be 100% fair though. Now that the virus has become less fatal through mutations and vaccines have become more effective, there's far less need to lockdown.

Yeah, I get that, but much like I am sure many here do not really trust our government to varying degrees, I trust the Chinese government a whole lot less regarding what happened to its citizens in the last two years. Locking down is totally in line with their modus operandi of absolute control and power (much to the detriment of the citizens), but who really knows what happened there, especially in the first few weeks in 2020? Not a lot of witnesses and no free speech. Every time I look up a large natural disaster over there, there is always a large discrepancy between the government total and other outside agencies. Guess which one is always lower

Having said all that, it sure would have been a lot easier if everyone were "offered" the vaccine and carried on. Mass work stoppages or deaths... what's the difference to their government?

Tesla is back at $1045 and there are two news items.

    1) It's tough to know, so consider this speculation, but I believe China is going to cling to their zero COVID policy for the foreseeable future.

    2) Giga Berlin will be shut down, if Germany embargoes Russian gas. GB power comes from 60% natural gas generation.

Both of these things are massive blows to Tesla. I suspect the Berlin operation can be run at partial capacity with a major solar installation. Perhaps if they can produce 100K cars per year, it will pay the carrying costs?

China is an unknown. How soon can you expect an ignorant person to change their mind and admit they were wrong?Perhaps when they get to 1M infections, they will blink? Maybe not? Your guess is as good as mine.

A solid hour of why I do not trust the Chinese government regarding COVID. At all.

Starve them with incompetency and drag away anyone with an opinion. Those poor civilians.

We haven't exactly covered ourselves in glory, in the west.

I admire the Chinese response to the first few waves. They did an amazing job.

What they are proving incapable of, is changing their approach to adapt to a changing adversary. Omicron is a different virus than earlier variants in that it cannot be stopped.

That Texas factory is absolutely massive!

I knew it was big, but the new footage is just crazy.

    Everything done under one roof!

Agreed 100%, but I think going this far as the Chinese have will reveal that the mental/psychological destruction will have far outweighed any saving of life. It's not "flattening the curve", it's defying nature and trying to control it. Not gonna work.

Again, I do not trust whatever stats they throw out at all. Hard lockdowns are an effective way of trying to keep it from spreading at the cost of everything else. Vaccines have been available since early-mid 2021. There is no reason why they are not at 100% since it is clear they do not have any true human rights. I do not even want to know how many people have had mental breakdowns and suicidal episodes in the last 2 years.

And to this end, they need to open up completely by using the vaccine as a "ticket out the door" mandate. It's the only way.

I've never before encountered someone with a COVID outlook that is 100% identical to mine.

    Weird.

    Cheers, RTN.

Oh I suspect many people agree with you and me, but people are just so sick of talking about something that has dominated our lives for 2 years now. Sensory overload and fatigue. I am on a weather forum where a handful of people analyze the ebb and flow of the pandemic in detail pretty much daily. I do not know how they do it.

Oh, and I bet Elon agrees with us :lauging:
