I think we all know where he wants to go with this, WeChat is the model he wishes to adopt, a platform that you can use for video, voice, payments, everything. Its doable, but we have to see if the American public is as eager as the Chinese to have all these services under one roof.
That's kind of old news. The support is overwhelmingly in favor of it. Kill a few birds with 1 platform. Take YouTube,Facebook,TicTok and mix them all together. Change the goofy looking bluebird into a Red White and Blue Eagle. The best is yet to come.
I think engineers at these high-end companies kind of scoff at being treated that way. The status-quo at a lot of the big companies like Meta, Google, etc. is to trust in the engineers and give them a lot of freedom. If the engineers wanted super high-pace, high-turnover work they'd have gone to work for Amazon. Don't let your whole worldview center around owning the libs.
No no, the Republicans should definitely keep harping on this made up culture war and own the libs real good! Its going to win so many elections!
I proudly politically identify as Independant. Uncle Joe helped add the 8.7% c.o.l.a. to my "coke n hooker funds" let's go Brandon. There isn't enough bandwidth on this site to accommodate my World views, I seriously doubt most would have the intellectual capacity to process it. It's a shame that politics have become a death War between Elephants and Donkeys, there are no winners. I pray we haven't gotten to the part " when GOD gets angry" Everybody gets fired on that dreadful day.
Oh Lord, one of my fanboys has come out of the closet. RTN is so easy to make a fool out of. He's like the village idiot, everybody needs one.
I read an article that Musk has contracted an external resource to fix the search engine. If true, this is not a good sign for the future. (Update: the contractor said to be working on the search engine is George Hotz)
What @StockJock-e was talking about isn't combining social media/media platforms. He's talking more like online banking, payment processing, health insurance info, etc. combined with those apps you're talking about. We don't know if there's overwhelming support for that. Would you want your social media account app, all of which have been hacked in the past tied to your banking account? Credit card payments? Etc. I'd rather not have my whole life hacked at once personally and just have one part of it hacked if it's going to be. Not sure where the public will fall, but I think they'd be more hesitant than the Chinese.
I would like to see an alternative to YouTube. Apparently, Twitter plans to incentivize video content. I really like the peer to peer video sharing network, Odysee, but very few people even know about it.
That's part of the initial fears of many. Several interviews, articles covering those concerns. Step 1 was buying tweeter then walking in with the sink and sweeping the trash to the curb. Step 2 is well in the making.
Its going to be difficult to shift away from what the community already likes. For example, Youtube introduced shorts, these are short 15-60 sec vertical videos targeted at mobile users, like tiktok. There was a lot of backlash from existing youtube users about not liking the vertical format and resistance to consume that sort of content. Twitter has its own demographic that are used to just seeing 140 character tweets. Its not difficult to promote more video, live streams and other services, but they will definitely have an uphill battle like youtube has had with shorts.
Right, but you claimed people overwhelmingly support that. I am highly skeptical there's overwhelming support for what @StockJock-e was talking about.
I dont want this thread to devolve into politics, so consider this another warning. Typically, if you get the feeling that you are an expert on a topic and everybody else is stupid, its very likely you are suffering from some Dunning Kruger. There is always somebody who is smarter and has more depth of knowledge, so your claim that nobody is capable of understanding your positions and ideas is a clear warning that you might be on the peak of Mt Stupid. Actual independents do not cheer the loss of jobs in the tech industry, its so stupidly short sighted. If 5000 tech employees are no longer working, thats 5000 people not making six figures, which means 5000 people not buying a new Tesla this year, not buying sushi for dinner tonight supporting local business, not catching an Uber to the bar. Economies need consumer spending, and if 50,000 tech employees are getting laid off and you are celebrating because of their possible political affiliation, that is your cheering against your own self interests.
You do not present as being objective, with respect to Elon. I have no conflict with that but I am flagging it in hope it is helpful, despite being sure to be annoying to read. Sure, change is difficult but you don't see Netscape or Blackberry around, anymore. Change happens. To be direct, I'm not even sure I'm pulling for Elon, anymore. He seems to have lost his grip on rational thinking. He is not the sympathetic person he once was. BTW, isn't it 280 characters per post? I have never tweeted or installed the app but I recall reading they doubled it several years ago.
You folks have been very nice to me, thank you for that, but please break out the torches and burn me to a cinder if you can throw down with this kind of quality. I have profound respect for this effort. I'm here for the disagreements. Not kidding. Non objective people look for an echo chamber of reinforcement. I am looking for someone to tell me I'm full of balloon juice. That's how I learn I've stepped off the path. I bid you all a wonderful evening, as you enjoy the view from whatever mountain you are on.
