Visa Inc. (V) is an American multinational financial services corporation headquartered in Foster City, California, United States. It facilitates electronic funds transfers throughout the world, most commonly through Visa-branded credit cards and debit cards. Visa does not issue cards, extend credit or set rates and fees for consumers; rather, Visa provides financial institutions with Visa-branded payment products that they then use to offer credit, debit, prepaid and cash-access programs to their customers. In 2008, according to The Nilson Report, Visa held a 38.3% market share of the credit card marketplace and 60.7% of the debit card marketplace in the United States. In 2009, Visa’s global network (known as VisaNet) processed 62 billion transactions with a total volume of $4.4 trillion.

Visa has operations across India, Australia, Oceania, Asia-Pacific, North America, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Middle East. Visa Europe is a separate membership entity that is an exclusive licensee of Visa Inc.'s trademarks and technology in the European region, issuing cards such as Visa Debit and Visa Credit.

Visa, MasterCard $7.25 billion settlement with retailers is voided

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Thursday threw out a $7.25 billion antitrust settlement that Visa Inc (V.N) and MasterCard Inc (MA.N) had reached with millions of retailers that accused the card networks of improperly fixing credit and debit card fees.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York said the accord was unfair to retailers that stood to receive no payments, and in the court's view, little or no benefit at all. It also decertified the case as a class action.

Starting to consider Visa, but probably several months late to the party. Seems like this is the third time dating back to December 2015 that it's been trying to break the $80 barrier.

Costco should theoretically work well for Visa in the long-term, so that's interesting me.

On a sustained market breakout, V is a name to own. Its got a measured move up to $84.57 (to begin with), but needs to hold above $74.50 through year end.

Its a financial, non-finaicnal in the sense that it sells for the same multiple than any other bank, its viewed like a financial, yet it does not run the risk any of the banks do. With China opening up its global payment network by year end, the opportunities that follow into 2017 are huge. Most micro cap companies in the world choose to do business with V. FIT, for instance, recently announced a push towards payment by patterning with V. By owning V, you are participant in every company V does business with. Its like owning a piece of every company in the world.

And its on Goldman's conviction buy list for 2016.

    --------------------------------------

In mid-December, Visa Inc. (NYSE: V), one of the newer Dow Jones Industrial Average components, was added to the Conviction Buy list. That should mean its $86.00 price target at the time is safe for the time being, with potentially more than 10% upside that could come with even higher targets ahead. Goldman Sachs sees potentially larger upside as Visa is being considered a winner in the electronic payment and IT services space, despite the sector facing continued pressure from cloud cannibalization.

Visa’s shares were close to $79.99 after that call, and they were at $78.35 just a day before the end of 2015. The consensus price target is almost $86.50, and the all-time high was $81.01, so the call might not seem all that aggressive despite the strong conviction of Goldman Sachs. The highest target price on Wall Street is all the way up at $95.00. Also, Visa offers a dividend yield of less than 1%

I've been a Mastercard user myself and have never used Visa before. But I have noticed the popularity of Visa lately and it wasn't until recently that I looked into the long-term opportunity.

I've been guilty of setting the buy-price right at what I think the exact support level is. Based on the weekly chart it looks like $75 is a support level, but I set it my buy at $76... Maybe I'll change it to $78 at the 50sma.

Visa ($V) may also move to the upside after reporting fiscal second quarter results that exceeded analyst estimates. The credit card giant also announced a new $5.0 billion share repurchase program.
