Hey TTT! I've been watching this thread for a while and have made a healthy profit following you on some of your picks. I recently made an account and thought I'd stop by to say thanks for sharing with us and updating this as often as you do. Keep up the great work!
@Foresaken , @FastEddy and @Austin vanderweide, I am glad to your making money. FastEddy if I am not mistaken you probably got into AMD from $2.67 to the 2.80 level so congrats as you near a double on your money. Remember guys that WPX may jump around as oil can be volatile but the upside should be above $11 when oil nears $50. As WPX has good fundamentals and received a recent upgrade it may hit the target price sooner if the markets are kind. AMD - News and the Pennant http://stockaholics.net/threads/amd-advanced-micro-devices-inc.39/#post-15983 WPX http://stockaholics.net/threads/wpx-wpx-energy-inc.136/#post-15948 CX http://stockaholics.net/threads/cx-cemex-s-a-b-de-c-v.170/#post-15951
With the continued broader market rally, most of my stocks are up with MPEL that has been beating down lately is leading the gaming sector up over 4%. My financials BAC and VLY still inching up and those Brexit buys are starting to pay off. AMD appears to still be accumulating and in and out of the pennant. My current swing trades CX and WPX continue towards my price targets but still have a ways to go to maximize my profits.
I was gone most of the day and sold nothing but did get a partial fill on some AMD calls using my cell. S - a +4% pop and where I am going to take some profits. http://stockaholics.net/threads/s-sprint-corporation.165/#post-16203 AMD - back in the middle of the pennant http://stockaholics.net/threads/amd-advanced-micro-devices-inc.39/#post-16199 CX - It just keeps getting stronger http://stockaholics.net/threads/cx-cemex-s-a-b-de-c-v.170/#post-16213 MPEL - Why it soared today and MGM did not http://stockaholics.net/threads/gaming-stocks.134/#post- WPX - Still strong as it drops 10 cents http://stockaholics.net/threads/wpx-wpx-energy-inc.136/#post-16216
Hey tip I'm new here, I've got a healthy interest in swing shorts and day trades so I'll be watching your picks. Thanks for your contributions man.
Welcome aboard @EcoWOLFrb and thanks for the kudo's Nice continuation with morning with the help of the broader market rally. With Oil up WPX is on fire, up over 9%. AMD up and still accumuating. Will update later back to trading
Congrats Austin, you are turning into a good trader in short order! I will cover today's trading later this evening or in the morning but first I want to answer a message that was sent to me. "Hey tip, just curious on what you do in times of a market downturn. I'm a bit skeptical about how much higher the markets Can go, and curious on what you do during recessions? Puts? Gold?" The first thing about market downturn's is to be prepared. For me that means having a big percentage in cash in my account, mixed with some stocks that pay good divi's. Per example I have had Ford since 2009 and when I took a hit during the Brexit fallout, my compounded divi's still had me way ahead of the game, I still added to my position slightly on the lower prices. Getting back to having cash in bad times I will still do some short term trading as there is always trades to find to profit on. It is always good to have Gold and Silver but you still need to buy before it top's out. Puts are for some and can be quite profitable but I am not much for buying insurance (many will disagree with this). Prior to the Brexit vote, I took profits on alot of my trades and banked the money in preparation. I guess you could call that my insurance. I even sold WPX on that eve and took a smaller than normal profit. Prior to the market crash of 2008, I was out of the market and put my 401K in cash as I did not buy into what President Clintion was preaching about the economy and then market fell off a cliff. I re-entered when the DOW was about 6500. I was like a kid in a candy store. Later I took much my profits out and put it real estate and paid in cash from the likes of LVS, MPEL, and a few others. Now with the appreciation of real estate they are worth more than than the stocks I sold. The bottom line in the worst of times the markets will recover, some times in short order and other times much longer. You need to create your own strategy to become a successful trader...TTT Updated to 18,347.67
Keep MPEL on your radar for a possible Macau turn around in gaming. The same for MGM except the exposure to Macau is less than MPEL. T lost a dime thanks to Citi's downgrade and S lost a nickel from being to overbought IMO. Every thing else was winners. I would expect a market pull back around the corner soon AMD - trading and news http://stockaholics.net/threads/amd-advanced-micro-devices-inc.39/#post-16379 WPX - nice run http://stockaholics.net/threads/wpx-wpx-energy-inc.136/ CX - may raise exit price http://stockaholics.net/threads/cx-cemex-s-a-b-de-c-v.170/#post-16382 VLY - Buying in the Brexit fallout has payed off http://stockaholics.net/threads/vly-valley-national-bancorp.158/#post-16386
Decent market rally on JPMorgan earnings beat as oil is moving the needle slightly. This is giving me a nice boost with BAC and VLY. My swing trades, CX and WPX looking good but WPX may need oil to rise more to have decent close. AMD down a couple cents with the semi's. Everything else is green but nothing outstanding yet.
The broader markets are up but appear a little tired. WPX is looking good this morning with oil and UVE adds a few cents in it's overbought level. There has been a lot of bullish calls on MPEL so again keep on your radar if Macau gaming should come off the bottom. UVE - My thoughts yesterday http://stockaholics.net/threads/uve-universal-insurance-holdings-inc.599/#post-16665 MPEL - Bullish Calls http://stockaholics.net/threads/mpel-melco-crown-entertainment-limited.140/#post-16718
As we have a lot of new traders here: Your best buys can be during a market pullback. Pick stocks that are holding up good. As you don't know how far the markets will drop I suggest easing into your trades and do it in tiers. In other words, lets, say your going to invest $1000 dollars in one stock. Split it up anywhere from 2 to 3 trades holding the last trade for next week in case we have a sea of red. The only exception would be WPX as there is more risk with the volatility of oil. Compared to the S&P here is a list from my portfolio
It would nice to see more participation in the weekly stock picking contest. Come on guys and gals and pick two stocks and get the bragging rights that you were top dog for the week. Stockaholics Weekly Big Board Contest for the Week of (7/18-7/22) http://stockaholics.net/threads/sto...st-for-the-week-of-7-18-7-22.1512/#post-16892
maybe if those contests are open to any stocks there could be more participant JMO any way I came here to post this ...
TTT do you have any plays this week? I'm thinking oil could go up... maybe WPX buy, or am I too late?
My plays are already in if you read the previous posts. I do think the drop on S is a overkill and will recover in the near term. I added a small slice of UVE to my position on the pull back this morning. I hope you are in AMD, it is up over 6% as I write. WPX is one of my favorites swings and I was suggesting when the price was around $9. You can play at this level but it comes with risk if oil retreats below the trading channel.
Thanks TTT for your insight. I did get in AMD on 7/8: BOUGHT TO OPEN 9 CONTRACTS OF OPTION AMD JUL 29 2016 6.00 C AT $0.15 I am holding AAPL from Friday: BOUGHT TO OPEN 3 CONTRACTS OF OPTION AAPL JUL 22 2016 99.00 C AT $0.77 I am also holding HOG from Friday: BOUGHT TO OPEN 4 CONTRACTS OF OPTION HOG AUG 19 2016 50.00 C AT $1.71 I didn't get any plays from my filters and was just wondering if anything was catching your eye! Edit: I think I'm going to jump on some S. I agree with you the drop this morning is overkill.
